Enjoy belly laughs and enthralling entertainment by live theatre experienced Seniors for Seniors, Retirees and Baby Boomers.
Don’t miss the wit, wisdom and wisecracks of COOL Gerryatrics and the singing, sassy dances, music, colourful costumes and mischievous manners.
The premiere performance will be staged at 10am Tuesday 7th September in Kenmore Churches of Christ 270 seat auditorium, 41 Brookfield Road, Kenmore.
In their ‘retirement’ or ‘rewirement’, the cast foresee audiences of 50-90 year olds keen to embrace “Laughter as the best medicine” because it helps seniors socialise and feel better, especially after lockdown and wearing masks.
The versatile cast includes Kenmore’s veteran theatre director Alan Youngson whose 40 year Performing Arts career in Canada and Australia includes comedy and character Actor in 43 plays; Director/Producer of 57 shows; 5 years as Executive Producer, Brisbane Warana Festival and 20 years as Artistic Director/Manager of four Performing Arts Centres.
Since retiring, Alan has directed, co-written and performed with Janet “the Queen” Findlay in “Adventure before Dementia!” and “Viagara Falls and the 70 Year Old Virgin!”. During COVID-19, Alan and the cast have co-devised routines, written comedy sketches and song parodies for the new revue show, LAUGH-A-LOT which co-stars HOT Inspirations and COOL Gerryatrics!
Singer/actor Joy Darmody’s showbiz parents exposed her early to performing arts. Her training and experience on violin resulted in her becoming Leader of the Canberra Youth Orchestra. As well she has performed in many musicals and theatre production shows. Since 2007, she has been delivering her one woman variety show as well as sewing and creating all her own extravagant, colourful costumes. In 2012, she combined her talents with dance/actor Rana to create HOT Inspirations!
Rana Jewell, raised on a sugar cane farm in North Queensland, missed out on a formative musical/dance education. At 21, she travelled to London, sparking her lifelong love of solo world travel and a diverse career include scuba diving instructor, barista, counsellor, author, stretch therapy teacher and accountant. In her 40s, she immersed herself in learning many dance styles and since 2004 her performances have radiated her sheer joy of colour, movement and glitzy dance outfits.
Ian Ogle, despite a voluble vocal career as a Senior Lecturer at QUT, has performed to many different audiences as a chorister, member of a male quartet, MC at weddings, trivia nights and anniversaries. With a flair for parodies of musical items – he has recently found another one for comedy character acting in Viagara Falls and the 70 Year Old Virgin, directed by Alan – with whom he is now co-starring as one of the COOL Gerryatrics.
